THE CHOREOGRAPHY BEHIND A RED CARPET APPEARANCE

What to wear? What to wear? What to wear?

Last January, we went through the same process. My friend and client Ms. Micheline Etkin was getting ready to be at the GOLDEN GLOBES AWARDS 2013 as a guest to the Hollywood Foreign Associated Press.  And last year we had to come up with something new and unique – the whole fantastic experience is outlined in another post “Getting Ready for the Red”.

Now, this year, in just a few days, she will be again a guest at this incredible red carpet event in Los Angeles,  and she will be attending the 71st Annual Golden Globes Awards by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association ®.  But this time, she is wearing a custom-made Haute Couture gown designed by a very well known and respected Russian fashion designer by the name of Galia Lahav and her team under the brand Galia Lahav Haute Couture. Located in Tel Aviv, the garment was sent from their headquarters directly across the world to Scottsdale, to Ms. Etkin’s door on Christmas eve. It was like having a fashion Santa Claus.

The entire story is fascinating, and will be unveiled, so you dear fashion fan are able to see the amount of coordination and work behind a public appearance like this.

So, here is the OFFICIAL PRESS RELEASE, and a peek at what she wore in the past few years:

Ms. Micheline Etkin at the 68th Annual Golden Globes Awards 2011
Ms. Etkin arrives to the 68th Annual Golden Globe awards, wearing a halter neckline and full length black to and white low skirt gown with asymmetric geometric patch/quilt effect. The fabric was created specially for this particular gown (each geometric piece was cut and sewn to create an asymmetric confetti falling effect), accessorized by Bedgley Mishka shoes and a Judith Lieber clutch, she stops to pose for the international press.

Spotted on the red carpet by the international press, Ms. Etkin poses for the photographers as she enters the long red carpet for the 69th Annual Golden Globes Awards on 2011. Wearing a Chanel Haute Couture gown with patent leather and appliqués and a trademark CHANEL “camellia flower” effect as the fabric pattern had been all set on a highly intricate crochet base and hand sewn.
This one length column couture was paired with cuff designed by LOUIS XV, that had a very rare and exotic stone called “the torch of Noah” as the center piece. The geometric white gold cuff completed the effect. A Judith Lieber clutch pairs with her Gucci platform patent leather shoes to round up the style.
Ms. Micheline Etkin at the 70th Annual Golden Globes Awards 2013
Wearing a Emilio Pucci designed semitransparent midriff on asymmetric diagonal cut black dress with peak toe shoes by Jimmy Choo and a clutch from Judith Lieber, Ms. Etkin turns for the international press in the red carpet. The set of Golden Beryl necklace and earrings were provided by LOUIS XV.

December 31, 2013 – Scottsdale, Arizona – “O Productions” is proud to announce that Lebanese born and Brazilian raised supermodel, philanthropist and social entrepreneur Micheline Etkin, is once again set to attend the 71st Annual “Golden Globes Awards, on Sunday, January 12, 2014 at the Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles, California. An established event of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, the Lebanese-born model with Brazilian heart, is a familiar face to the world of fashion and style, as well as a committed friend and aide to local, national and international social enterprises will be on the red carpet. As a long time resident of the city of Scottsdale, Arizona, Ms. Etkin is a Founding Member of the Advisory Council of the Cardon Children’s Medical Center. Last year, she co-chaired the annual gala, Stars of the Season, who is also an honorary member of PANDA (People Acting Now Discovering Answers) which is part of Phoenix Women’s Board’s mission is to support discovery processes that lead to improved treatments and cures for devastating childhood diseases, and a founding member of Casa Brazil, a volunteer group that provides basic needs to impoverished towns and villages in northern Brazil.

Styled and dressed by locally recognized Colombian media host, fashion producer and style writer Mr. Oscar De las salas, Ms. Etkin will be present at the red carpet, the awards event, as well as the following gatherings with her husband, Dr. Bruce Etkin and members of the family. Oscar, whose styling and production have crafted an almost obsessive following in the Southwest, will also be in attendance, coordinating the details of this glorious haute fashion moment. As talented architect and fashionista, Oscar also coordinated and styled Ms. Etkin’s 2013 appearance (which is detailed in his column Getting Ready for the Red on his blog www.whatwouldoscardo.com)

Ms. Etkin will be wearing a luxurious, one-of-a-kind gown that was inspired by the beauty, charm and style of Ms. Etkin herself. This special gown for the evening was given the name of its inaugural wearer, called very simply: “Micheline”. The sumptuous garment arrived at her Scottsdale home, after what seemed like a white-glove world tour from Tel Aviv via Paris, stopping in New York and finally coming home to Ms. Etkin in Scottsdale. The creation of the best-kept secret in haute couture, the admired international Russian bridal designer Ms. Galia Lahav and her co-designer Mr. Sharon Sever worked for several months on the concept, and the process became a true fusion of tradition with the modern – from the elaborate hand-stitched handiwork to the millennial collaborations via smart phone, MMS and video chat between continents.

Only to be revealed on the evening of the Golden Globes, this unique gown consists of an exquisitely tailored and tapered column cut – incredibly close to the body – with a semi-flute drop on the hem. The long, slim sleeves and extended exposed side and back are a dramatic contrast on the overall silhouette. A modern graphic lace with a fresh art-deco influence joins to embroider the body in petite black reflective sequins. The elegance and modern distinction in the material allows the bodice to simply flow. Ms. Etkin will be also sporting custom jewels from Louis XV Jewelers located in Phoenix, Arizona, as well as a vintage Chanel clutch, paired with impeccable Christian Louboutin shoes.

LOUIS XV Jewerly for Micheline Etkin for Golden Globes 2014
In addition to the inspiration provided by the person of Micheleine herself, cues to the structure surrounded this Elizabeth Taylor-inspired necklace with a grand elaborate setting. A Skype video meeting connected the jewelry with the designer to showcase the jewelry structure, design, color and proportion while actually on Micheline’s neck.

A closer look to the necklace:

The Necklace
A design inspired by the regal jewels worn by Elizabeth Taylor, this sapphire and white diamond setting will be the “piece d’ la resistance” of the entire ensemble. Designed by LOUIS XV, it will paired up perfectly with the Galia Lahav design.

The Israel-based designed team allowed Mr. De las salas and his team the freedom for public appearance of this gown on this very recognizable red carpet, and this amazing gown is just the first of many introductions into the choice international coverage of the Evening Haute Couture wear scheduled to launch later this year by Galia Lahav Haute Couture in the United States.

Once seeing the dress and its inspiration at the event, there will be no question why the designers consider Ms. Etkin to be a brilliant muse.

Below is the Haute Couture fashion designer Sharon Server’s sketch for this sumptuous garment crafted exclusively for Ms. Etkin for this grand occasion, the  71st. Annual Golden Globes Awards 2014.
