For a second year as a model coach and runway coach/choreographer, I have been commanded by the Stylos Awards committee to guide them in the process of creating and producing a fashion show. One that always makes the awards evening to add that one more component of the humanities, and the world of art, performance and design.. fashion! – last year’s fashion show had it’s own flavor and look -, so this year, as part of the incredible 10 years, the taste of the fashion show portion of the awards will be an elegant will be one to remember.

Three years ago (2012), I volunteered to help them to stream line the fashion show portion of the awards and help them to network and get some longer arms in the community at large.
We all put our hats on when it comes to “community outreach:.
The organizers wanted to expand and get bigger, so some TV time was awarded, as part of a process of reach out to the local community, this time on UNIVISION 33 set the note on media. At that time, as I was a co-host on a spanish speaking radio show, and I brought it to the attention of the two other co-hosts, and the producer; they approved the idea of giving them a hand, and we were able to have them promote the institution and the event.
The story behind this foundation, is that is one fully integrated with the community, allies and friends of the nonprofit, so with their help a foundation was created and called Isac Amaya Foundation, (in honor of their dear fiends who died on a terrible car accident. An inspiration to that young group) – A very sad situation that now shines in the community.
The most inspiring note as the fashion show is concerned, is that will be produced with local community volunteers, some with experience and some that never had the intention of modeling or be runway model, or have experience the discipline of a 3 hours class around body posture, body expression or listen to the insights of an industry that sometimes is considered vacuous.
The last two years (2013 & 2014), I was called to be a judge for emerging models, and it’s been a full rounded experience; So, this year with a much anticipation, a MODEL SEARCH was conducted and for hours to find the new talent.

The result was much more exciting than what we expected.
We selected 30 models with all sorts of backgrounds and looks, they are all different in many ways and they represent our locale, and all of them committed to volunteer their time, helping their own, their own community. As a result, a contract was signed per model and I committed to volunteer once again to train them, give them secrets and tips of how to continue with their modeling career (to those interested) and some little insights of how good the should feels when you decide to turn your T.V. off and walk-out of your front door with the idea to make your community better – in this case through fashion and arts.
Oh, did I mentioned that one of our alumnai from last year, the gorgeous “Tali Taliburt” participated this year as part of the “Phoenix Fashion Week 2015” as an emerging model competition and won? including a contract with the prestigious modeling company “THE AGENCY ARIZONA“, how about the for validation? – I am utterly jazzed and proud of her!

You can see TALI on this brief video from last year’s awards;
The big help this year, was the fact that the organizers and committee members of Stylos Awards were able to secure a location for the near three months preparation as models. A local modeling academy by the name of FIACOVA donated the location with all it’s perks for us to conduct our three hourly Saturday classes.

What is was next on this process?, was to find the designers.
So, an open call for Fashion Designers took place, and “FADAME” – (Francisco Adame Dance Arts Modeling Academy) open doors for us to conduct the search. The best part of it all? we got excellent designers for the Stylos Awards 2015 models to showcase.
So, this year we will have;
with the inclusion of a locally “followed” DJ by the name of DJentrification PHX, the show promise to be one not to miss.

This show On November 21st/2015 at The Pressroom in downtown Phoenix, is one no to miss, for sure!,… and I am pleased, really pleased to be part of it all. Perhaps what moved me to do all this? – the social engagement of the Isac Amaya Foundation that provides scholarships to our own, and the seriousness, professionalism and commitment of the board members and volunteers.
A volunteer time that I would not change for anything!
See you then.
Always in style!
