THE HUNTER LOOK

Well, “babe hunting” is an art form and is not an easy one.

I assure you that a good look (or an elegant one) will get you the digits, will make an impression on a babe, or simply will make you look appealing, interesting and handsome …all those even before opening your mouth!

The looks shown here may have a slight “too much” as it is full of layers and may be too much for some, but think that since you have layers over layers and layers.., you could add or subtract until you feel comfortable. (if you are not sure about the patterns, simply wear one tone, but different hues)

Keep in mind the color palette and/or the type of fabrics, that is the key!

If you want to learn more about this particular style….scroll down and read below some tips I listed for you…so, go out and hunt yourself some babes, or at least get the feeling they want to hunt you!, and if you are taken or committed,…hey, a look or two are not bad..it will increase your self-esteem.

- A flat front pair of trousers on a dark tone will work with anything this winter. Pick a fabric that is thick, but able to breathe as if you are outdoors will help you to be covered and at the same able to breathe and not get overly heated, which is uncomfortable. It is the beginning of the year; the holiday parties are behind us.

During the next month or two our temperatures will drop (well, sort of) and during the evenings we will have “freeze warnings”…so, you may need a jacket, a sweater and/or an overcoat (NOT a wind breaker – it is not raining and it is not windy, just yet!)

When the sun sets and the night starts, a chill evening is ahead, or if you travel and have to visit other cities with low temperatures, you may need more than one layer to overcome the low temperatures and keep warm.

There are many ways to create a look with layers…One of the looks that I truly like, it is rather less complicated and has a true masculine aspect is the “hunter” look; A simple blend of rough textures and fabrics that have a definite tactile heavy feel.

The Scottish,, have learned how to combine tweed with other materials to make them more urban and appealing to the modern lifestyle. The elegance of the Art Deco era of the 30’s brought those materials back to the streets with a new twist as new garments were designed for automobile aficionados.

This is an era from which I take inspiration – materials that help soften the look, either silk ties, heavy cotton sweaters, gabardine pants or cotton pants with pinstripes and shirts usually in earthy and natural tones.

Some tips to carry out this masculine style:

– A jacket with a fur collar o or a heavy weave material that is oversize will cover your neck and ears when a cold wind comes up.

– Choose heavy weaved materials for jackets such as tweed, parchment and combine with cashmere sweaters as layers or tweed vests.

– If you’re feeling brave try wool fitted hats or heavy crocheted skullcaps make a great version of this look.

– For shoes, “Wing Tips” with two contrasting materials make a great combo… now, calf height or full length socks are a terrific compliment – try to spin the look with camel, caramel or light colors, so you do not look like a huge walking piece of “moss” that separated from some old ruins of a building.

May suggest here a brand that is a tradition on wing tips…“Herring Shoes”

– “Glen Plaid”, “Glenurquhart check”, “ or “Prince of Wales”,” Herringbone”, “Tartan”, and other woven twill techniques (mostly wool) give these specific fabrics a name, and they are the main component of this look. The fabrics are heavy to the touch but light to wear and easy to layer.

– Sage, green, brown and dark blues are typical colors for this look, as they relate to nature, but give it a spin using lighter colors for contrast or lighter accents.

– A hat is an opportunity not only to cover your head and keep warm but also to create another element of contrast, part of the garment or an elegant point of distinction.

– Scarves will help to keep your neck warm as well, and leather or wool gloves are a great of style! My suggestion for a good pair of gloves is from one of my favorite leather goods, HERMES. This is an investment piece, so consider price, but also longevity, so purchase a color and a fit on your hand that will work for you in any occasion.

Well, is not that you are going to “hunt” in the city, (well maybe you are) but it is a look to consider for off times or lounge times – still good for office environments that allow you to get out the box and walk in the office but with a distinct personal style.
